Pleural disorders are conditions that affect the tissue that covers the outside of the lungs and lines the inside of your chest cavity. Normal lungs and lungs with pleurisy and pneumothorax.

• Lung cancer.
• Other lung diseases, such as sarcoidosis, asbestosis, lymphangioleiomyomatosis, and mesothelioma.
• Pulmonary embolism.
• Familial Mediterranean fever.
• Parasites.
• Heart surgery.
• Chest injury (trauma)

What is the most common pleural disease?

Pleural effusion: Accumulation of excess fluid in the pleural cavity; this accumulation pushes against the lung and prevents full expansion with breathing. This is one of the most common problems associated with the pleura.
